I am honoured to have been the official patron of The Male Bag Foundation since April 2013, when 25 men decided to ride ex-postie Honda 110 motorcycles from Perth to Melbourne. We have since organized a further four rides, round Tasmania in 2014, Western Victoria in 2015, Eastern Victoria in 2016 and in the Echuca/Moama region in 2017.
The Foundation was established as registered charity at the completion of the Perth to Melbourne ride and has enabled every cent of fund raising to be directed to prostate care outcomes in regional areas – outcomes that would otherwise not be met.
Supported by so many people (riders, crew, sponsors, families) we have now collected in excess of $800,000 to raise awareness, research funding, purchase hospital equipment, and patient nursing support, for the work being undertaken to fight prostate cancer in Australia.
It is important that we continue to spread the word about prostate cancer, in the hope that we can save more men from this insidious disease that kills over 3000 Australian men every year.
We have the bikes, we have the riders and lots of enthusiastic supporters, but we need your help with sponsorship and donations. Our website www.themalebagfoundation.org.au will provide you with more details of how you can help us with this work.
In October 2018, another very significant ride is planned over a 9 day period. The route includes Echuca, Deniliquin, Jerilderie, Parkes, Bathurst, Canberra, Wagga, Corowa, Murchison, Nagambie and back to Melbourne. I really encourage and urge you to get involved and be a part of ‘The Male Bag Ride – 2018’ as a rider, crew, sponsor, donor and financial supporter of our Male Bag Foundation 2018 ride.
David Parkin – Patron, Rider and Prostate Cancer Survivor.
